Julie Mattson has been a Registered Nurse since 1995. 

Forensic Nursing, as a specialty, did not exist when she graduated from nursing school, therefore, she initially pursued all areas of hospital nursing including, but not limited to, Medical Surgical units, Neonatal Intensive Care, Postpartum, Oncology, etc. In addition, Julie spent years working in telephone triage and Home Health.

She found Forensic Nursing while working in the Emergency Room in Denton, Texas. The opportunity was presented to her to train as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, which she did. After providing this service for victims, testifying in court and watching multiple perpetrators get life in prison, Julie fell in love with this specialty. She loves being a part of the team that helps victims finally get justice. Later, Julie decided that she wanted to do more. This is when she pursued her career as a Forensic Nurse Death Investigator.
